Construction of a school building with 4 classrooms in Kpalimé-Kpogadzi in 2013

Construction of a school building with 4 classrooms in Kpalimé-Kpogadzi in 2013 At the end of 2010, fundraising began for the construction of a new school building in Kpogadzi. At the beginning of 2013, the sum necessary for this work was raised, thanks in particular to the efforts of the members of the association, a multitude of private donors and the extraordinary donation of the Rotary Club of Romont following the support concert with Nicolas Fraissinet in November 2012.

The initial project included a building for 3 classrooms and 2 offices. Since a new building with two offices has been built in the meantime (donated by the German organization "Hilfe für Togo", see The Kpogadzi School), the project was modified and since the planned offices were no longer essential, they were removed and replaced by a fourth classroom. These classrooms are intended to replace straw huts that do not offer good learning conditions. On site in Togo, a works coordination committee was created for this construction project, bringing together representatives of:

  • from the management of the public primary school of Kpogadzi

  • of the primary school management committee (COGEP)

  • from the chiefdom of the Kpogadzi district

  • of the Neighborhood Development Committee (CDQ) as well as the local coordinator of ACATS, Mr. Togbe of the Solidarity Medical-Social Center.

Thanks to the commitment of this coordination committee, the entire community was mobilized to facilitate the construction. Thus, the building could be financed at almost 20% by the beneficiaries, thanks to the contribution of sand, gravel, water, etc. and the provision of labor. The total cost of the building amounted to CHF 42,000. The work began at the end of April 2013 and was completed in July 2013. On July 23, 2013, the new building was inaugurated in the presence of school authorities, local authorities, students, teaching staff and representatives of ACATS.
